You may have had your Sql Server 2005 agent disabled and a baffling “Agent XPs disabled” error message displayed alongside. This may happen when you have been playing around with its properties and entered some invalid parameters. The most frustrating thing is this will not let you re-edit the properties to fix or remove the offending entries.
Here’s how you may fix this:
1. Check Log file usually located at “C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.1\MSSQL\LOG”. If you see the “Invalid object name ‘sys.configurations‘. [SQLSTATE 42S02] (DisableAgentXPs)” message go to the next step.
2. Query the sys.configurations view:
Select * From sys.configurations
Where Name = ‘Agent XPs‘
You will see the “value” column set to 0.
3. To set the value to 1 above to 1 execute the following statements:
sp_configure ‘show advanced options’, 1;
sp_configure ‘Agent XPs‘, 1;
